A Closer Look
Our eyes so used to the comfort of hues familiar
and ears stopped with the majors and minors of keys to hand,
Our hearts warmed with homely slippers and sepia tones,
We have made You Lord a stately house and locked you in.
But in these stormy days of wind and rain,
We have glimpsed an ancient image of israel forgiven,
of god's quietest return to earth,
and a trickle of mountain stream running.
Open those doors and let the floods overtake
our hauty pride too long our map.
Show us the unmapped moors of love's trails
Scored deep into creation's hum.
Lord we pray for ears unstopped and eyes unveiled
to you the King returned.
Of life and death in technicolour which sears our marrows
Until these dead bones live again,
and announce His life in the valleys and troughs of our groaning world.
