Together
In summer's height, the sea rumbled more,
unleashing yot's fathomless gore,
until all was washed dirty and dead,
and the whole world is left to dread.
something stirs in the depths of darkness,
vanquished monsters raise their severed heads,
and we look around for our weapons,
fashioned by men of science and letters.
we look far and wide in humanities stores,
but only glassy mirrors reflect,
only us, only me.
houses of mirrors we have built,
impregnable against sharpest prophet stone,
we know our every sinew and bone,
and the cause of every aching groan.
not one in all the earth to see through.
except one - one of us nailed to a tree,
paying once for all nature's grandest fee,
until our eyes are lifted from bedraggled me.
heaven's bright sun bursts forth into turbulent city seas
until that day where every eye is wiped and
our hearts are flooded so safe
with the flapping of bright wings.
Father we pray for New Orleans. May your presence hover over those waters and brings peace. Amen
