Walking

By the borthers Kirk Fell and Gable,
Beyond the reach of insipid noise,
The dark monotones of ancient Babel,
Recede into vast waters; remain submerged.

Splattered effervesence falls on luminous macs,
And ascending heart beats chime together,
To soaring crescendos by sacramental brooks,
To peace and remembrance of silence stilled

By greens and heather. Of mountain scales
Which slip and slide under amateur assault,
Until beyond fear comes weary repose,
And my walking companion appears.
