more dickinson...

getting into emily dickinson again.... beautiful but what is with the ----?

I died for beauty - but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When one who died for Truth, was lain
In an adjoining Room -

He questioned softly "Why I failed"?
"For beauty", I replied -
"And I - for Truth - Themself are One -
We brethren, are", He said -

And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night -
We talked between the Rooms -
Until the Moss had reached our lips -
And covered up - our names -

The end of knowing?

I felt a Funderal, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - teading - till it seemed
That sense was breaking through -

And when they were all seated,
A service, like a Drum -
Kep beating - beating - till I thought
My mind was going numb -

And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then space - began to toll,

As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race
Wrecked, solitary, here -

And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -

The Only One of Israel is not innocently "omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient," as too much Christian theology has insisted, but is a God present with and absent from, a God to be praised in full adoration and assaulted as an abuser.

Sophie's Song

Please leave me be this Christmas,
Leave my ears unattended oh lovers of wisdom,
Whose elegies dampen down the fiery sacrament,
Until burning coals cool into chalks for writing.

Please leave my songs untethered,
Leave my voice open and free, oh lovers of rhetoric,
Whose speculatations only fashion razors,
A thousand cuts and a death renege.

Please leave my wonderment be,
Leave my emotions coloured, oh lovers of science,
Dissect me not, forget me not,
I will sing my saviour's song.

To speak personally, the very reason I write is so that I might not sleepwalk through my entire life
